Lifestyle in The Villages

There is a reason The Villages has 20 people moving to The Villages every day.  There is a reason over 400 new and preowned homes are being sold each month.  I discovered why in 2011 when I moved to The Villages and have been a big fan and advocate for The Villages for one main reason, The Lifestyle.

You can do as much or as little as you want, 693 holes of golf, number 1 in the world (number 2 has 216 holes), 10,000 tee times available every day, over 100 tennis courts, 100 pickle ball courts, 96 recreation centers, more than 2,600 organized clubs, 3 town squares with nightly entertainment, 5,200 softball games played a year which includes 216 teams of Men’s, Ladies and Co-ed.

When you describe a “golf cart community” you should use The Villages as an example.  It’s estimated there are 60,000 golf carts in The Villages which travel estimated 6 + million miles a year (25,100 trips to the moon).  With over 100 miles of golf cart paths, over 100 places to dine and most retail and medical faculties accessible by golf cart you might find your car parked a lot.

You might think The Villages is a retirement community, I prefer to call it a living life to the fullest community.  The average age in The Villages is male 62 and female 60, many of us refer to The Villages as “Disney World for Adults”.  It seems your youth returns when you move her, whether it’s your 55 Chevy golf cart, the Street Rod carts or you dream car (cart) from your teenage years.  Show off your tricked-out golf cart showing up in one of the squares for an evening of dancing or people watching!

My personal opinion is people live longer by staying active and being in The Villages oh can you be active.  There is another fact about The Villages and longevity, the survival rate for sudden cardiac arrest in The Villages last year was 44% – about 7 times the national average of only 6%.  So many residents take CPR training plus some neighborhoods are investing in CPR/AED programs.  Another fact is according to the FBI The Villages has the lowest crime rate of any metropolitan in the state of Florida.

So where in The Villages do you want to live?  That is the biggest question and why you want to deal with Dick Betts.  Before we start finding you a home we need to understand what is important to you.  The Villages is 33,000 acres more than 51 square miles that’s a very big area, to give you an idea from the north boundary of The Villages to the furthest south end is 19 miles and about an hour driving time.  Together we can help you pick an area to start based on what interest you the most.  Homes start in the low $100,000 to over a million dollars, I am sure we will find a place you will love to call home.  Want to get a better picture of The Villages and how we can discuss your options as to where to start your search Click Here.

The Villages Town Squares

The founder of The Villages Harold Schwartz felt every home town needed a special place to meet, socialize and gather for a good time.  The Villages has 3 town squares all packed with dining, shopping and a movie theater.  Each square has free nightly entertainment plus many special events and market nights.  Visit one of the squares to catch up with friends and make new ones!

You put 130,000 people in The Villages during peak season and you need a lot of dining, seems moving here leads to wanting to dine out more and why not!  The country clubs have great restaurants with golf course views, dining in the squares leads to people watching and the list goes on.  With excess of 100 restaurants golf cart accessible your choices are endless!

Pickleball in The Villages

Never heard of Pickleball?  Come to The Villages and you will learn quick!  Let me explain Pickleball, it’s a cross between tennis, badminton and ping-pong.  It sounds like a made-up game, well it is and folks have been playing Pickleball for the past 50 years.  The Villages having over 100 courts has been called the Mecca for Pickleball.

So, what’s the attraction? Pickleball is played on a badminton court which is 20’ wide and 44’ long in comparison to a tennis court which is 27’ by 78’, this means much less running which for many saves wear and tear on our bodies.  The Pickleball is a perforated plastic baseball much like a whiffle ball which is hit across the 34’ high net with wood or composite paddles. Single or 2 players can be on each side much like tennis.

Pickleball clinics and clubs are held regularly in The Villages, many residents take Pickleball serious and some just enjoy a relaxing game, your choice.  The Villages offer PB100 which starts with a classroom setting to learn the game before stepping foot on a court.  If interested PB101, PB102, PB103 and Competitive Play Skills Clinics all taught by Certified Instructors.

Much like golf whether you score a 70, 80, 90 or over 100 you participate at the level you want and just enjoy the activity and the new friends you are sure to make!

Swimming in The Villages

Many homes have pools and if having a pool is important to you let us know!  Maybe you would prefer not having your own personal pool but would enjoy one available for when you are in the mood.  Where ever you decide to live in The Villages there is a pool just a short golf cart ride away.  All the pools in The Villages are temperature controlled for year-round enjoyment, there are 3 types of pools in The Villages, read below as we explain:

Neighborhood Pools

Need a day pool side to relax enjoying a book, nap or visit with friends and when needed jump into the pool to cool off then Neighborhood Pools are your best choice.  These are adult only pools so great to just enjoy what the pool has to offer.

The Villages Woodworking Shop

Woodworking is a very popular activity in The Villages and everything you need is in one place!  The Villages Woodworking Club divides its members into 5 areas, cabinet making, woodcarving, wood spinning, special projects and the most popular making children’s toys.  Over 5,000 children’s toys are made each year and donated to children, if you like woodworking and donating for a good cause this could be the group for you.  Painters of the toys are needed so even if not interested in woodworking they have something to offer.

No experience is needed as the club offers classes and videos and will help you get up and running with either a new hobby of have everything you need or for an existing hobby a great place to spend your time.  The workshop has carving room, a turning area with 11 lathes, and the large shop floor has band saws, table saws, scrolling saws, jigs, drill presses, planers, and dozens of other tools.
