PDA Net
Every once in awhile I either find or somebody points me to software or hardware I think is great, well this software not only is very cool, it can save you a bunch of money. If you have a Treo with unlimited data you need to spend the one time fee of $34 to buy PDA Net. Using your hotsync cable you can turn your Palm into a modem for your computer. I downloaded the software, and within 1 minute had my laptop surfing the web at almost 384 Kbps for free, well hopefully you have unlimited data with your carrier. No I am not a trader leaving my Treo's web and email programs in the dust, I will still be using those to quickly check things but if I have a prolong time frame you have to admit cruising around the internet or sending emails on your laptop is much easier. So check it out and get a free trial download! www.junefabrics.com
Hash Codes
Does your Treo just reset or start looping? Go to this link, print it and keep it with you at all times. Have a friend with a Palm OS Treo? Impress them with their own copy of Hash Codes
Setting up Speed Dial on your Treo
Have phone numbers you want to dial quickly? Your Treo allows you to set up commonly dialed numbers which you can simply hold down a letter on your keyboard and the phone will automatically dial it for you. We have two different types of Palm OS Smartphones to explain how to set these up, the 680 and Centro that works on the AT&T network works one way and all the others differently. Let's start with the non AT&T devices, go to your phone screen and use your thumb to hit the bottom of the 5 way navigator. This opens up the entire list of Speed Dials and Shortcuts to programs, you need a blank so either delete one that came from factory or drag them around to create an open button. You can do this by tapping on your menu button and selecting edit either Favorites Button or Page. Once you have "Add Favorite" you can select the name and number you wish called and assign a letter which you just hold down and it dials for you. For the Treo 680 and AT&T Centro go to your Phone screen and select the "Star", then tap menu and tap "New Favorite" and follow the above steps.
If you have a voicemail account that needs you to punch in numbers, pound signs and stars tap on "More" and add them, remember to put the "p" in to give you pauses for the phone system catch up. Place a check mark beside "Dial Extra Digits Automatically".

Special thanks to Chris Husack of the Chapel Hill, Durham NC area www.BetterCarolinaHomes.com for telling how happy he was with mSafe Do you text? If not, you need to! Many of your clients are either already texting or will be soon. It is always a great idea to ask your clients what their favorite way to communicate with you;? email or phone call are the standard but don?t leave this great option off the list. ?Mr. Client, if you don?t answer your phone do you prefer me to leave a voicemail or send you a text message?? I think you will be surprised at the number that will respond with ?Text please?.
Had a great story in one of my seminars; I will pass along his handy idea. An agent was working with a buyer who preferred most of their communication to be done by text. He got the idea to copy and paste the ?text conversation? into a Microsoft Word Document allowing him to document the flow of information. Then, when the contract closed he could print the entire text message conversation and put it in the closed file along with his other documentation. It was simple to do so he starting doing it for all clients. At a recent closing a buyer questioned why he had not been told something; the agent was able to pull out the printed Word document and highlight the conversation which included the buyer acknowledging the information in question. So how do you do it? While in the Text Chat, pull your stick out and drag it up thru your text message highlighting it, push the Menu button and select Edit, then Copy. Next, open a MS Word document (using Documents to Go), hit your Menu button and select paste. Save it using the client?s name. Any time you sync to your computer any new changes will be made and you are always updated and ready to print
World Clock
On Palm OS the "World Clock" has are a few options most people miss. After opening the clock tap on menu and you will see 2 drop down options, "Time Calculator" which you can check and see what time it is where you want to call. The other one that amazes me is "Sun Rise/Set" option which gives you Sun Rise and Sun Set any date you pick in any time zone.
Palm Resets
There are 3 different ways to reset your Palm OS device, Soft, System (warm) Reset and Hard Reset. I have built a seperate web page addressing the first two types of resets. Many of the emails I receive are from Treo owners who are on their 3rd device or 4th device. Most cases the problem is they are hotsyncing the new device to the computer where a 3rd party program is loaded and transfered to the Treo. If it sounds like this is your problem please tap on the link below:

Google Maps on your Smartphone
Love my Google Maps on my Smartphone. Doesn?t matter if your running Palm OS or Windows you need to load up Google maps. There are so many functions on this mapping software you can spend a day just learning what it can do for you. Here are quotes from Google: Real-time traffic ? See where the congestion is, and estimate delays in over 30 major US metropolitan areas. Detailed directions ? Whether you plan to walk or drive, your route is displayed on the map itself, together with step-by-step directions. Integrated search results ? Local business locations and contact information appear all in one place, integrated on your map. Easily movable maps ? Interactive maps let you zoom in or out, and move in all directions so you can orient yourself visually. Satellite imagery ? Get a bird's eye view of your desired location. (It's like you're there, we swear.)
Another feature they don?t even mention which I love, if you go to find location which is a drop command, you can tap on the box on the bottom right and go to your contacts on your Smartphone and find them on map. It?s FREE, but be sure you have unlimited data service, which if you have ever attended one of my sessions you know you need. Using your Smartphone enter www.Google.com/gmm on your web browser on your device and Google takes you from there. A special thank you to Bill Walsh, from Anderson, SC for his input.
Financial Calculator Instructions
I have posted on my Blogs the five page instruction sheet on how to use the built in Financial Calculator. On my home page of this site I have links to my Blogs where you can copy and paste.
Bluetooth Stereo Headset
Finally I have finished testing the Bluetooth Stereo headsets and ready to make a recommendation. The winner is wiREVO! Any of you that have been in any of my classes since mid June I have been using them. Reasons; The range is three times further then any other brand I tested. Not a solid bar connecting them so using one is no problem. I hear best with this set. Out of the box you need to just pair the wiREVO with your Smartphone and read the instructions and put them on. If you want to use the music system on your Smartphone you need one more piece. A program called ?Audio Gate? allows your music work with the headsets.Where to buy, I have arranged a source for the headsets with Shawn Rowell of Communication Xperts commxp@earthlink.net phone number 321-278-9612. Some of you have spoke with Shawn in the past as he helps me with certain carriers. Plus Shawn is a real person that can help you. Shawn can?t help you with the program that allows the music, for that go to; www.softick.com/bluetooth-audio/ You can download a 15 day free trial or purchase for $19.95

Looking for a way to increase Treo volume?
VolumeCare increases the maximum volume levels for each Treo speaker. Users have reported volume increases up to a 75% in their handset volume, speaker phone volume and wired headset volume. VolumeCare will also allow you to adjust your voice volume (aka microphone) so others will hear you *loud* and clear. VolumeCare also allows you to set pre-defined default volume listening levels for each speaker type on your Treo. So you can preset the listening level for your earpiece separately from the Speaker Phone. Go to www.gotreosoftware.com and look for Volume Care, about $20
Calculator on the Treo Calculator on Treo has many functions and most never find them. Tap on your "Calc" icon and open your Calculator, now using the 5 way navigator go right on the Treo and keep tapping to see all the functions, Basic Mode, Math, Trig, Finance, Logic, Statistics, Weight/Tmp, Length, Area and Volume. Don't forget this is where you can see recent calculations and copy them by hitting the ?Menu Button?.
Treo Phone Favorites Are Versatile As you might expect, a cell phone built on the Palm OS platform has a clever, versatile way you can access frequently called numbers and we call it Favorites. While you have a Favorite number selected, you can press the space bar of your thumb keyboard and reveal ALL of the phone numbers associated with that contact's record in your Contacts program.
Cut, Paste, Call
Treo owners did you know that you can paste numbers directly into the Dial Pad view? Copy a number from another application, and then switch to Dial Pad view. Open the Edit menu and then select Paste. Press Phone to dial.
Using Google on SMS If you ever been in my class you know I say "THIS IS COOL" well this one really is very close to the top! You can text simple questions and within 30 seconds you have answers to the following text number 466453. I did this and this one thing will change the way I live! Please try this and email me your feelings, I love it! Go to this website and play with it, then try it on your Treo. www.google.com/sms/

Check it out!
Importing contacts into your Calendar
In my class one of the last things I teach in my basic Palm class is how to move contacts to the Calendar. I know your brain is on overload by this time in my class so here it is again. In your calendar pick a date and then pick a time for the appointment, make sure your curser is flashing at the time. Find the menu button and tap on it, go to ?Options?, then Phone Lookup, select the name, tap to highlight it and tap add on the bottom of the screen. The name and first phone number is now on your calendar as an appointment.
You can beam names and phone numbers from your Treo to a cell phone if it is equipped with Infrared capability. 1. Make sure your phone has the IR feature enabled. 2. In your handheld's Address Book, open the desired entry and choose "Select Business Card" from the drop-down menu. 3. Tap "Yes" when asked if you want to "Make this name your business card?". 4. Now choose "Beam Business Card" and point your handheld and phone toward each other. 5. Your phone should receive the name and phone number from the beamed business card. 6. Follow the your phone's instructions for saving the beamed information to your phone's list. 7. Beginning at step #2, repeat for each name and phone number you want to add to your phone's list.
Surf and Save with Your Treo?s
Most Treo owners know how to use the provided web browser to surf the web. And most users also know how to save (bookmark) web pages. But it is also possible to save complete web pages in the Treo for viewing with the web browser even when you are offline. Start by launching your Treo's web program and surf to a news web site you like. Next, instead of bookmarking the page, choose "Save page" from the Page menu. Now whenever you want to retrieve that page, go to your Bookmarks and you'll find it there. Unlike standard Bookmarks (which launch 'live' web pages, saved pages appear to have the top right corner of their bookmark 'folded down.'
By default there are 4 Favorites displayed on the main phone screen of the Treo 650. If you can live with just 2 displayed, you can use the extra space on the phone screen to display one line (above the on-screen keypad) of upcoming events from your calendar. Set this up from the phone screen by pressing the menu button and selecting General Preferences from the Options menu. Next turn on the checkbox by 'Show Calendar Event.' Remember you can still get to all your Favorites just like always by using the 5-way navigator to scroll through the list.

PDA Reach
Great software to complete your Palm and Desktop connection. The software puts your PDA on the screen of your computer which allows you to use your computer keyboard to enter and edit information. Just remember to use the PDA Reach software to complete a hotsync before shutting down. Another benefit of this software is you can now use your computer screen to have others view what's on your Palm. One of the best $24 you can spend! Free trial download! www.junefabrics.com
Easy use of black keys
Have you noticed if you want to use your black number keys on your Treo you have to hold down the black key at the same time, no more, just double push the black button to lock in the black keys. You will see on the screen in the bottom right corner a dot with a line under it, that icon tells you the black keys are locked.
While on a call on your Treo, accidentally touching various parts of the screen can hang up or put your call on speaker unintentionally. This usually happens when someone with an ear ring inadvertently touches an onscreen button. To eliminate this problem go to the Prefs program and tap Keylock. At the bottom of the screen choose to deactivate your touch screen when on a call and your earring will never hang up on you again. By the way, to access on-screen commands while on a call (since tapping no longer works), use your 5-way navigator to highlight and select the commands you need.
Accessing Contacts While On A Call A frequent question from Treo users is "How do I access my other programs when I'm on a call?" Whenever you're on a call and want to get to the other programs, just tap on your house and you will be in the Palm programs and select the program you want to go to. When your done in that program and you want to return to the phone screen just tap on phone button.
Keyword Search
A quick way to search for contacts in multiple categories is by using keywords in the Note field of your contacts. For example, if you have a restaurant listed in your address book, you can add the word "Restaurant" as well as the type of food they serve, such as "Italian," in the Note field. Then you can perform a search using "Restaurant" and "Italian," and any restaurants with those keywords will appear in your search results.
Keep Personal Physicians' Info Handy To keep your physicians' phone numbers and addresses handy, enter the name, address, phone, and fax numbers of your family doctor, dentist, ophthalmologist, orthodontist, and your selected emergency medical facility in your Palm handheld's address book. If you create a new category named "Medical," it's easy to find all your physicians' information. It's handy when filling out school forms or when a semi-emergency comes up, such as a chipped tooth. Don't forget you can also include info on the note of the contact with details you need to remember!
Touchscreen and Hotsync
Align your screen often and Hotsync Daily PLEASE! Sad stories if you don't!
Favorites screen on your Treo How to set up a "Favorites" screen on the Palm. Pick up to 12 of your most used programs like Address, Date, eData, etc. Be sitting on the main screen, drop down button under your little house, Category, pick Address and tap on the black triangle and find Edit Categories. Add Category "Favorites" and select up to 12 programs more programs to add to "Favorites". Then drop down, options, and make sure you are checked beside ?Remember last category.? What you have done is create a single page with the programs you use most. The other neat thing is by checking the remember last category you always return to your group of most used programs.
Never forget to make a Phone Call Keeping track of phone calls you need to return call be handled easily with your Treo. Go to your Task, do not make a category just keep everything you need done on the main Task page. Make an entry about the phone call you need to do and if you?re forgetful set an alarm. You can make notes to Task so you can remember what was said. It's a great way to keep track of whom you've called back and whom you haven't, so now there's no reason why you should forget to call anyone back ever again.
Backing up your Palm and computer
Every time you sync your Treo with your PC, you trade information between devices. If you lose data from either your Palm handheld or your Palm Desktop databases, one syncing session will usually replace the missing info. But if there is a problem with the software, the syncing process, or your HotSync options, there is a potential for data loss. This page shows you how to safeguard your data so that even if your Palm and your computer crash, you can restore your contacts and appointments after you're up and running again. Before you start, you'll need to gather these elements: Palm Desktop or Outlook full of contacts and appointments A blank CD-RW, or a USB storage device Follow these 5 easy steps
Open Palm Desktop or Outlook, decide whether you want to back up your Addresses or your Date Book, and select the corresponding icon from the left side of the window. For this example, we'll start with Addresses Click anywhere within your Address subwindow, then press Ctrl-A to select all the contacts. This is just a safety precaution: if you had selected just one contact, only that contact would be backed up Select Export from the File menu, and a dialog box will pop up. Name your Address archive file and save it to your Windows desktop. If you plan on archiving regularly, you might want to make the date part of the name--for example, addresses09_25.aba. Click the Date icon on the left side of your Palm Desktop window. Select Export from the File menu, and a dialog box will pop up. Name your Date Book archive file and save it to your Windows desktop. Copy the two archive files to your favorite blank media. Even when you have hundreds of contacts, your archive files will be small--less than 100K. To restore your Address or Date Book info, start Palm Desktop, select either Address or Date from the icons on the left, and choose Import from the File menu. Browse to the location of your archive file (in this case, the floppy) and hit the OK button.
Documents to Go
One of the most useful tools I have found using my Treo is the "Documents to Go". With the Treo it comes free. This allows you to have Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in your Palms. What I do is start a word document on my computer and name it for what ever event or transaction I might have. I then can copy and paste information to this document and Hotsync it into my Treo. This also allows you to edit and add information on your Treo. With me traveling I copy and paste flight schedules, hotel confirmations, rental cars and information about where I am going. It's much easier pulling my Treo from my pocket then going thru tons of paperwork. In your business think about emails, listings and other information you could file under a clients name and always have it with you! In many of my Beyond Class I am teaching moving a Closing sheet into Doc?s to go. Love it!
Moving contacts from other databases to Palm or Outlook
How to move contacts from another contact management to either Palm or Outlook. The Palm loves contact management and makes it easy to import, go to the original database and look around for export, normally under file, they all have one just some companies like hiding them. You will export into a Comma Seperated Value or CSV file and name it. Then go to Palm or Outlook under "File" you will see "Import", find the file you made and import, both Palm and Outlook give you the option to put the information in the correct order. I suggest you move one contact to see if it moves correctly.
