Avoid Sluggish Operation ? Shut Down Programs that are Running in the Background Windows Mobile will keep programs running in the background which can lead to sluggish operation.Get in the habit of shutting them down to add speed to your device.Go to Settings then System and find Memory. Once in Memory find RunningPrograms. You will see Stop All, tap on the tab and all your currently open programs will stop running and you can start over again with more speed on your device.
A tip from Lynn Levine with RE/MAX in New Jersey: She discovered a shortcut to the Running Programs List on her Treo - simply hold down the OK button on the keyboard, it will take you directly to the Running Programs List - no need to go thru the Settings! (Not all Windows devices have this shortcut feature.)
Manage the Time Setting on your Smartphone If your Smartphone is showing the correct time and time zone with Local Network Time option selected (network settings), and the settings on your desktop computer are not configured properly, the USB ActiveSync to your desktop computer will display an incorrect time setting on your phone causing problems on Events in your Calendar and any Alarms that are set.To avoid this, follow these steps: From the StartMenu select Settings then System from the menu tabs along the bottom of the screen, tap on the Clocks & Alarms Icon.Turn the Phone ON and let the Network establish the Date and Time settings.Perform a USB ActiveSync between your Smartphone and desktop computer. It is always a good idea to make sure your computer and your device show the same time when you ActiveSync. Power Saving and Auto Off Does your device shut off to often? You can easily adjust this setting. Select Settings from the Start Menu; tap the System tab across the bottom; tap on Power, tap Advanced and adjust to your liking.
Turning Your Infrared and Bluetooth On Select Settings from the Start menu; tap the Connections tab across the bottom; tap on Beam (be sure it?s checked); hit OK then tap on Bluetooth (you can choose if you want it on and discoverable). Sounds & Notifications Select Settings from the Start menu; tap the Personal tab across the bottom; tap on Sounds & Notifications.You can now select from the options to enable sounds for all the different programs on your device.Be sure to go thru all the areas listed in the Menu Bar across the bottom of the screen: Sounds, Notification and Manage. Using the Letter Recognizer Press Start and select Settings; tap on Input; in the options listed next to InputMethod scroll down to Letter Recognizer.From now on, any time you need to input information just tap on the arrow next to the picture of the keyboard at the bottom of the screen and the option of Letter Recognizer will appear; start writing.
Setting up Categories You can edit an existing contact to add it to a category or select the desired category choice as you enter a New Contact. From theStartMenu select Contacts. Open the desired existing Contact by tapping on it or tap Menu then New Contact to add a new entry. Scroll down toCategories; tap on the box to open the list of Categories; select the desired Category from the list then OK to exit or tap New to create a Category, then tap Done, then OK.
Beam your Business Card From the Start Menu select Contacts. Find your name but do not open it, just have it highlighted; now tap Menu and select Beam Contact; make sure to align IR ports with the other device and it should send.The device you beamed to will have the option to accept your information and the optioin to add it to a Category group.
Manage Font Size If you have a hard time reading the text on your Windows device, or want to see more text on the screen, you can adjust the font size to be larger or smaller. From the Start Menu select Settings, tap on the System tab, the Screen tab and then the Text Size tab. There you will find a slider to enlarge or shrink the font. Find a Contact by Company Name Open the Contacts program then press Menu; select View By > Company.Select a Company Name to see the contacts who work there. Set an Event Reminder Alarm From the Start Menu select Calendar.Select an Event, tap Menu then Edit.Complete the EventFields with the needed information then select Reminder, and then select RemindMe. Enter the desired number of minutes, hours, days, or weeks then press OK to exit.
Attach a Note to an Event
From the Start Menu select Calendar. Open an Event and press Edit.Along the bottom of the screen tap on Notes and a notepad screen will open.Enter the desired information and press Done; this will take you back to the Calendar page. You will now see a small icon that looks like a yellow paper with a corner turned up; tap on the paper icon to open the note. If you hapen to move the Calendar Event to a different day or time the Note will transfer with it.
Attach a Note to a Contact From the Start Menu select Contacts. Repeat the same process listed above.
Enter an Anniversary or Holiday Press the Calendarbutton on your keyboard repeatedly until you are in Day View. Select an Event or a time to enter a description for a New Event and then select Details, then Time and then select No Time.Select the Repeat Pick List, and then select Every Year.Select OK.
Storing Pictures and Videos on an Expansion Card From the Start Menu select Pictures & Videos.Press Menu and select Options.Select the Camera tab.In the Save files to Menu select List then select Storage Card. Please Note: This option is only available if a Storage Card is inserted into your Smartphone. These need to be purchased seperatly, they do not come standard with your device.
Transferring Music and Video Files to Your Smartphone On your computer, open the Windows Media Player 10.Connect your Smartphone to your computer with the USB sync cable; when the Device Setup Wizard opens on your computer, click Automatic.Check the Customize the play lists that will be synchronized box.Select the Play Lists you want to Sync.Click Finish to begin the transfer. The next time you connect your Smartphone to your computer while the desktop version of Windows Media Player 10 is running, synchronization starts automatically.
Use a Picture as the Today Screen background
From the Start Menu select Pictures & Videos.Highlight the picture you want to use then press Menu then Set as Today Background.Next select the Transparency Level List and select the appropriate level. (Use a higher percentage for a more transparent picture and a lower percentage for a more opaque picture.)Press OK to return to the Thumbnail View.
Symbols and Accented Characters
Press the Alt key to display the alternate character list.Narrow the list by pressing the key that corresponds to the character you want. For example, to enter an ?, press e.
Using the 5-way Navigator to move up or down to highlight the desired character; press Center to insert the character.
Assign Shortcut Keys to Open an Application
